CANADIAN PERMANENT RESIDENCE

Applying for permanent residence in Canada

There are different types of programs for accessing permanent residency in Canada, including the following:

PROVINCE OF QUEBEC:

  • Regular Skilled Worker Program (RSWP)

  • Quebec Experience Program (PEQ)

  • Entrepreneur Program

  • Investor Program

  • Self-Employed Program

OTHER CANADIAN PROVINCES (EXCLUDING QUEBEC):

  • Express Entry - Points system based on criteria such as age, education, work experience, knowledge of French and English, marital status and ties to Canada.

  • Provincial Nominee Program (PNP) - Each provincial program is specific to a province and has several components for students, business people and workers

N.B. 1: Permanent residency (PR) can be obtained before you settle in Canada or after you have studied or worked in Canada for a few years.

N.B. 2: For provincial programs, residency is obtained in two steps. You must first be selected by the provincial government (e.g.: In Quebec, you must obtain a Certificat de sélection du Québec ( CSQ)) and then apply for permanent residence to the Canadian federal government.

Canadian permanent residency gives you the same rights as a Canadian citizen, except the right to vote and the right to a Canadian passport.
